little si today jan 30th
me and bret watching bhops fall off the last move of pornstar
bhops on pornstar
bhops and the classic nanuk hat
again we headed out into the wet to try and get some lines in. most of them were dry again and we really had great temps. i did the first 3 lines in a tshirt.
me, bret, bhops and the Kyle O. got psyched on yet another winter climbing day in washington. love this place.
for years when bhops was younger, he would come to practice, and comps, and school, and sleeping and pretty much every where with a hat like this one pictured. we found it at the gas station and it brought back many good memories. he was always a funny kid.

first little si day of 2010
bret and I headed up to little si today. rock was good, super crisp but not too cold at all. some stuff was wet but not everything. we got about 6 pitches in before we decided to call it. i was still able to climb 5.13 after a couple months of gaining weight and not really training. this felt good. it is getting me psyched for consistent days out there. but i think im going to the PCC for a donut right now.

a day in the life....club Zum and seattle gym
today i spent the early morning over at Club Zum putting grips up on their freshly built rockwerx wall.
the whole idea behind this gym is amazing. the have a really progressive view on training and what it really means to be fit for life. my really good family friend Peter Schmock
started this gym a while ago and it is really taking off. they just moved locations and i must say that i love the new building. i think its exactly what they need in the downtown area.

a day in the life...........bremerton gym
here are some shots of our bremerton facility. as the crow flies its only 15 miles from seattle, but it has an hour long ferry ride to get there. fun gym, good walls, great headsetter out there. ross is my ideal guy out there. he runs the program exactly the way i need it run, with a few tweaks to make it their own. i really appreciate guys who take their setting job as seriously as i do.

a day in the life day 2....tacoma gym and redmond
today adam brossard and i woke up way early to get down to tacoma. they were ready for us to come down and finish up on a room and do an entire room. tacoma is about 30+ miles from seattle, but in traffic it can take hella. so we left before traffic.
pretty boring footage today. just really going over the day and what we got done.
of course i forgot my chargers down there so i cant charge my bosch unless i go down there tomorrow, which i might do.
even though im excited about getting this place open, i really hate setting in situations like this. i feel like a robot. putting up lines that are uninspired and left wanting. i know i say this a lot, and they always turn out fine, but i didnt come away from the gym today with much confidence that the lines were as quality as i wanted.
well, either way, its going to be rad. after setting the room today, i realized how great that zone is going to be for iso. with the 2 separate parts of the gym, it is going to make an ideal comp situation. cant wait to hold events down there.
this is the first part of the footage. the 2nd part is having trouble downloading. i gotta figure out how to speed this up, it takes hours.

day in the life...........1st in a series, seattle gym
so i thought it would be fun to do a "day in the life" series. this series will be documenting my days as the head routesetter for vertical world rock climbing gyms.
i will also be posting this on http://www.routesetter.com
this really is just for people to see how we do it at our gyms and hopefully get some feedback on what i am doing and maybe some different ideas from what other people are doing with their programs. i will be doing a handful of days worth of footage. so pretty much for the next few days i will film. today was at seattle gym. tomorrow will be at our tacoma gym and redmond. and friday will be tacoma and seattle. then monday i will be in kitsap and seattle and tuesday i will be in everett. lots of driving, but really that is the job i got, and i do love it. between running climbing team and running the routesetters, it keeps me busy for sure, but really, you cant ask for much more in this industry.
this first day i took like 15 minutes worth of footage. some of it may interest you and some of it may bore you to death. leave some feedback and let me hear what you got to say.
a buddy at the gym today said "did you get some footage of the members complaining and telling you that you suck?" i just didnt have the camera rolling enough, cuz i get that all day.
enjoy.
the last few videos are not loading for some reason. i will try again later.

sydney 2008
here are a few shots from sydney australia youth world championships. i cant find my quito ecuador shots from youth worlds 2007.
this was another great trip. really fun. i got to do more site seeing here than i thought. their public transit system is the best. you buy one pass for the train, bus, and ferrys. and they all go where you want to go.
meg and i traveled together. we had a good trip over, and the most epic trip back. our flight got cancelled home, so we had to bum rush the airport at 6am to try to get a flight, got bumped from united, put on quantas, no connection in LA, running around for hours in different airports in different parts of the world. prolly stood in line for 8 hours at different airports while getting shuffled to different lines.
i would not want to do that again.
Imst austria 2006
this shows some shots from the Imst youth world championships. this was a great trip as well. i met kynan in boulder and we flew to london where we did the maintenance on one of the climbing walls on the royal carribean ships(his gym in florida has the contract on this). then we went to barcelona for some more wall work. then switzerland and germany. then austria. i think i took a total of 17 flights during this trip.
loved london, loved barca, loved austria....pretty much love europe.
i think we had a bunch of our kids on US team that year. bhops, boyko, carl, miki, who else? the US team had a whole hotel to ourselves. literally out of a story book, in the mountains of austria, with a hotel that looks like a gingerbread house. amazing place.
this really opened my eyes to what it means to coach. the euros do it for real. we went and trained at innsbruck (yes the mega facility that trains all the austria beasts) and also got to see all the euro teams in full squad.

china 2005
found some shots i took of the youth world championships from 2005. this was my first summer as a coach for the US national team. really a great time. really made some good friends.
kynan, coach kyle, claudiu. thanks for all the good years.
here you will see some scenery shots of awesome chinese history, and a sydney shot, i believe a zeb shot, me with the Iranian climbing team and coaches, the US team, a simon benkert shot with a bunny rabbit in his hand???? this was a great trip.

france 2004
its hard to believe that it was six years ago when i last went overseas to climb. me and a johnny harkness, jess bridges and coco made the trip to ceuse and then font. amazing. but here is a tip, if you are going on a rope climbing trip, dont boulder for a year and expect to be able to hold on for more than 5 bolts, especially in france.
found these shots and brought back memories.
